3M Oral Care
Creating impactful, digital platforms for oral care professionals
Workplace Overview
As a member of 3M Health Care’s organizational units, the Oral Care division creates an immense portfolio of physical products and supports several digital platforms as well. In my role as Lead UX Designer, I focus on a software environment for a variety of internal technicians who work closely with dentists and orthodontists around the world to create treatment plans for their patients. Though multifaceted, this platform provides a path for technicians to prepare oral care prescriptions for products like clear tray aligners that are manufactured by 3M. New Company: Solventum
A brand new health care company, named Solventum, will be formed through a spinoff of 3M’s health care divisions. More information is pending but the Oral Care division will become a part of Solventum in mid-2024. Visit the 3M/Solventum website.
3M Project Examples
As mentioned above, my primary project at 3M is to enhance the existing design, create new features and user experiences, and perform research and testing in a variety of ways for our internal-facing oral care software. Working in an agile environment helps to keep projects and stories moving smoothly and efficiently. I appreciate the depth of knowledge needed to work on this software. There are often complex problems to solve but this allows me to push my skills and learning to the next level.
A sub-project I look forward to working on in the future is the implementation of new design systems for both our internal and external facing software platforms. A colleague on my team has been doing a lot of preliminary research, setup, and design for these systems in the past year. We will need to collaborate with her as we implement these design systems in the coming months.
